The episode begins at Pine Hollow. Mrs. Reg spots Ashley looking at Comanche's mouth, and asks what's up. Ashley very badly attempts to bluff her way through it and asks what would happen if a horse ate something they shouldn't eat. Just because she's curious, she tells Mrs. Reg, not because something happened! Mrs. Reg explains that the object would usually pass through the horse, but doesn't ask any follow-up questions. (I feel like Mrs. Reg is usually quite perceptive about the nonsense the students get up to, so I'm going to put her not picking up on the fact that Comanche very obviously ate something important down to stress about the Lisa situation.)
Speaking of, Carole and Stevie are back with Lisa at the hospital. They tell her that Max and Deborah have called off their wedding. They reminisce about more of their fun memories together, and Stevie is frustrated when Lisa doesn't wake up.
That night at Pine Hollow, Deborah pats Prancer, and suspects that the horse is missing Lisa. She chats with Red about how Prancer seems sad, as if she knows what's happened. Red tells her that Prancer has stopped eating, and that he's worried about her. Red goes to Comanche's stall, and finds Ashley sitting in there, looking glum. Ashley insists that, if Comanche goes to the bathroom during the night, nobody is allowed to clean it up in the morning except for her. Red looks baffled.
The next day, Carole and Stevie are sitting outside Prancer's stall. They're worried that Prancer will become sick from not eating. Carole says that it's different for them, because they're able to go and visit Lisa at the hospital. Stevie gets an idea.
We cut to the hospital, where Carole tells Lisa that they've brought a friend to visit her. Carole leans out the hospital window and calls for Stevie, who leads none other than Prancer up to the window. Prancer neighs, and comatose Lisa begins having flashbacks of Prancer, neighing all dramatically. Lisa's fingers begin to twitch, and she wakes up! She smiles, and says hello to her friends.
Later, everyone is visiting Lisa in her room. (Everyone except Lisa's parents who, as I mentioned in last episode's review, have been completely absent while their comatose daughter was on the brink of death in hospital!) Lisa is excited that she's woken up in time to go to the wedding, and Max explains that they postponed it. Lisa is clearly keen to go, and tells them that they only postponed the wedding until she was better, and she's better now. She wants Max and Deborah to make their cruise, which is in three days. Lisa thinks that's enough time to organise a wedding. Deborah explains that they've cancelled everything: the catering, the church, the officiant. The Saddle Club begin coming up with a plan: they'll help out with catering, the wedding can be held at Pine Hollow, and Red's uncle, who is a judge, can marry them.
Lisa goes into full wedding planner mode. She assures Carole and Stevie that she's well enough to go to the wedding ceremony. After the girls leave, Phil visits her. He needs some advice from Lisa, and tells her there's a 'situation.'
At Pine Hollow, Veronica spots a note in Stevie's cubby, and proceeds to read it. It's from Phil, asking her to meet him in the lounge so they can talk. He writes that the original chocolate and letter were for her, and that he wanted to ask her out. Veronica looks angry, then rips off the bottom of the note. She rewrites 'Yours, Phil' at the bottom. She bumps into Stevie, who then finds the letter. Veronica has changed it, so it now doesn't include the bit about Phil wanting to ask her out. (Crafty!)
Veronica intercepts Phil in the lounge while he's waiting for Stevie. Acting all serious and sad, Veronica tells Phil that she overheard Stevie talking about his letter. She tells him that Stevie said she wasn't interested in him, and she's not coming to talk to him. Veronica tells him that she didn't want him to wait all by himself, and Phil looks crushed. They're both sitting with their backs to the door, and Stevie comes in, all excited. Veronica notices Stevie over her shoulder, then makes a point of holding Phil's hand to comfort him. Stevie looks upset, and leaves.
We then get a scene of Ashley trying to catch Comanche in the paddock set to a weirdly upbeat pop song. She eventually manages to catch him and take him into the stables, where Comanche proceeds to take a dump on the stable floor. Ashley begins searching through it with a broom. Red appears, and reveals that he's had the wedding rings all along. Comanche knocked them off the stable door and into the aisle. Ashley is relieved. Personally, I'm relieved, too ... that this arc is over.
The Saddle Club are out in the barn, putting the finishing touches on the carriage. Lisa tries to talk to Stevie about Phil, but Stevie says that they're both creeps who deserve each other. Lisa asks to see the letter that Phil wrote. The girls suddenly become forensic handwriting experts, and realise that the signature isn't Phil's. They realise that it doesn't look like his handwriting, the signature is written in a different colour to the rest of the letter, and - most crucially - the bottom of the letter has clearly been ripped off. (All I have to say is that Stevie, if you fell for that, that's on you.)
Veronica asks Phil if he'd like to come over to her house to watch videos together. Phil rebuffs her, and explains that he likes Stevie. Veronica wells up, and immediately becomes defensive. She tells Phil that they would never work out anyway, because the diAngelos are old money.
We've finally arrived at the wedding ceremony. Max, looking incredibly dashing in his tux, is waiting under the arch with Red, who's his best man. (It's cute, but surely Max would have a friend his own age to be his best man?) Deborah arrives in her horse-drawn carriage, and the two exchange their vows and kiss. They proceed to immediately jump into their carriage and leave. No reception, no after-party, they straight-up pull and Irish exit on their own wedding and bolt. (I guess they're really excited about ... the cruise. Yep, just the cruise, and only that!)
Later, Stevie approaches Phil in the lounge and tells him that Lisa explained everything to her. She apologises for being so mean to him, and says that she really likes him. Phil tells her that he feels the same way, and they exchange a kiss. Carole and Lisa walk in as this is happening, and look elated.
Later, Carole and Lisa are on a trail ride, and Stevie joins them. They demand that she tells them everything about the kiss, and Stevie asks them, 'Don't I always?' The girls all laugh together, and the credits roll.
Well, with that, we've officially reached the end of season one of The Saddle Club! What a wild ride (#pun) it has been! We've watched children fall down cliffs, fall into abandoned mine shafts, one horse death, and approximately a hundred inspirational speeches from Mrs. Reg. (Seriously, that lady should've been on the Ted Talk circuit.) It's been absolutely ridiculous but, for the most part, it was the fun type of ridiculous.
I'm sure things will be slightly less zany in season two!
